How much stamp duty do I pay when buying property in India?

Stamp duty is a state subject, so the rate varies โ€” commonly around 5% to 7% of the property's agreement or circle-rate value, plus a separate registration charge. Several states levy a lower rate when the property is registered in a woman's name or jointly. The Stamp Duty calculator applies the rate for your selected state and buyer category.

What is the LRS limit and what does it cover?

Under the RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme, a resident individual can remit up to US$250,000 per financial year for permitted current and capital account purposes such as education, medical treatment, travel, gifts and overseas investment. The limit is per person per year, so a family can pool individual limits. The LRS Limit Tracker shows how much of your annual cap remains and the split by purpose.

When do I need to give my landlord's PAN to claim HRA?

If your annual rent exceeds โ‚น1 lakh (roughly โ‚น8,333 a month), the Income Tax rules require you to report the landlord's PAN to your employer to claim House Rent Allowance exemption. If the landlord has no PAN, a signed declaration is needed instead. The Rent Receipt Generator includes a PAN field and produces receipts in the format employers accept.

What is TCS on foreign remittances and how does it affect cost?

Tax Collected at Source applies to most outward remittances under the LRS โ€” for example a higher rate above a yearly threshold for travel and general purposes, with a lower or nil rate for education and medical depending on the funding source.
