Frequently asked questions
What are the GST rate slabs in India?
GST has four main slabs — 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% — plus special rates of 0% (nil-rated essentials), 0.25% (rough diamonds) and 3% (gold). Most services and many goods fall under 18%. Use the GST calculator to add or remove GST at any of these rates.
How do I calculate GST on a price?
To add GST: GST amount = base price × rate ÷ 100. To find the base price inside a GST-inclusive amount: base = final price × 100 ÷ (100 + rate). For intra-state sales the GST splits equally into CGST and SGST; inter-state sales use a single IGST at the full rate.
What is the difference between margin and markup?
Markup is profit as a percentage of cost; margin is profit as a percentage of the selling price. A ₹100 cost sold at ₹150 is a 50% markup but a 33.3% margin. Confusing the two is a common pricing error — the margin calculator shows both.
What is payback period and ROI?
ROI (return on investment) is total gain as a percentage of what you invested. Payback period is how long it takes the cash inflows to recover the initial cost. ROI measures profitability; payback measures how quickly you get your money back — use both to judge a business decision.
