AKTU percentage formula

AKTU's Choice-Based Credit System converts CGPA to percentage with a single linear rule. Substituting your current CGPA:

Percentage = (CGPA ร— 10) โˆ’ 7.5= (8.09 ร— 10) โˆ’ 7.5 = 73.36%

Identical to (CGPA โˆ’ 0.75) ร— 10. Older non-CBCS batches may see CGPA ร— 9.5 on their transcript.

Next step

Convert any CGPA to percentage by board

Different universities use different formulas โ€” CBSE ร— 9.5, VTU / Anna / AKTU (CGPA โˆ’ 0.75) ร— 10, Mumbai Engg, SPPU. The CGPA-to-Percentage calculator picks the right one for your board.

How It Works

AKTU (Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow) was renamed from UPTU in 2015 in honour of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. It is the umbrella technical university for over 200 engineering, pharmacy and management colleges across Uttar Pradesh. Every B.Tech and M.Tech programme reports SGPA per semester and CGPA cumulatively on the 10-point scale defined by AKTU's Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS).

The two formulas

Aggregation โ€” credit-weighted across all completed semesters:

CGPA = ฮฃ (SGPAi ร— Creditsi) / ฮฃ Creditsi

Percentage conversion โ€” the AKTU CBCS rule:

Percentage = (CGPA ร— 10) โˆ’ 7.5

The two notations (CGPA ร— 10) โˆ’ 7.5 and (CGPA โˆ’ 0.75) ร— 10 produce the same number โ€” both appear in different AKTU notifications. Older pre-CBCS schemes sometimes used CGPA ร— 9.5, so if you joined under a legacy syllabus, check the conversion formula printed on your transcript.

Class designations under AKTU

AKTU classifies the final degree on the basis of the aggregated percentage at the end of the programme:

  • Honours / Distinction โ€” 75% and above (CGPA โ‰ฅ 8.25)
  • First Class โ€” 60% to below 75% (CGPA 6.75 to 8.25)
  • Second Class โ€” 50% to below 60% (CGPA 5.75 to 6.75)
  • Pass โ€” 40% to below 50% (CGPA 4.75 to 5.75)
  • Fail โ€” below 40% (CGPA < 4.75)

A typical AKTU B.Tech semester carries 24-28 credits depending on theory, lab and project mix. The final-year project-heavy semester is usually lighter on credits, and that uneven distribution is exactly why AKTU uses the credit-weighted formula rather than a simple average.

Frequently Asked Questions

AKTU uses Percentage = (CGPA ร— 10) โˆ’ 7.5 under its current Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) regulations. Mathematically this is identical to (CGPA โˆ’ 0.75) ร— 10 โ€” both forms appear in AKTU notifications. For a CGPA of 8.09 this works out to (8.09 ร— 10) โˆ’ 7.5 = 73.4%. Some older non-CBCS schemes used Percentage = CGPA ร— 9.5 โ€” check the formula printed on your specific transcript if you joined under an older syllabus.
