The NEET 2024 qualifying cutoff (50th percentile for General / EWS, 40th for OBC / SC / ST, 45th for PwD) was 164 marks for General and EWS, 129 marks for OBC-NCL / SC / ST, and 146 marks for PwD. NEET is a fixed-ceiling exam (out of 720), so all three are derivable from one another given the candidate pool. Your raw marks come straight from the OMR sheet: (total correct × 4) − (total wrong × 1). The percentile is your position relative to the whole candidate pool: percentile = (1 − AIR ÷ total candidates) × 100. The AIR is determined by sorting all candidates by marks (highest first), with ties broken by NTA rules (Biology marks → Chemistry → Physics → fewer wrong answers → older age). There is no single AIR threshold for a government MBBS seat — it depends on the state, the round (15% All India Quota vs 85% state quota), and the candidate's category. As a rough budget: AIR under 1,500 typically secures a seat at any AIIMS network college; AIR under 5,000 covers the NIRF top-20 government medical colleges; AIR under 50,000 has a realistic chance at some government MBBS seat (often in a state quota or a less competitive state); beyond 50,000, government MBBS becomes very state-quota dependent and BDS or AYUSH may be more practical options. Reserved category candidates get significantly more headroom — an OBC AIR of 80,000 can still secure a Govt MBBS in many states.
