Your Milestone Roadmap
How It Works
Every day sober is a victory worth celebrating. The sobriety calculator counts the exact time that has passed since your clean date and marks each milestone along the way โ from your first 24 hours to ten years of recovery. It turns an abstract intention into a concrete, growing number you can look at on a hard day, and it gives you a visible roadmap of how far you have already come.
What it does and who it is for
This is a simple counter and milestone tracker, not a medical tool. Enter the date of your last drink or last use, and the calculator shows your sober time broken into years, months, days and hours, the total days and hours, the next milestone you are working towards, and an estimate of the money you have saved. It is built for anyone in recovery โ whether you are counting your first week away from alcohol, supporting a friend or family member, marking long-term sobriety from nicotine, or tracking any habit you have decided to leave behind. It also works well for accountability partners and sponsors who want a shared, honest number to celebrate.
How it works
The method is deliberately transparent. The calculator takes the difference between today and your clean date in milliseconds, then converts that span into days (dividing by the number of milliseconds in a day), hours, minutes and seconds. Those total days are then split into a human-readable years, months and days figure using a simple 365-day-year and 30-day-month convention, so very long streaks stay easy to read. Each milestone โ 24 hours, one week, one month, two months, 90 days, six months, one year, and onward to ten years โ lights up automatically once your total days reach it, and the next unachieved milestone is shown with a countdown so you always have a target. The money-saved figure multiplies the number of weeks sober by a rough โน500 per week, a moderate-spend estimate for India that you should adjust to your own situation.
A worked example
Suppose your clean date is 1 January 2024 and today is 1 January 2025. That is 366 days (2024 was a leap year). The calculator reports roughly 1 year and 1 day, about 8,784 hours, and your one-year milestone as achieved. Weeks sober work out to about 52.3, so the estimated money saved is around โน26,000 at the default โน500-per-week assumption. The next milestone shown would be two years, with the remaining days counting down each time you revisit the page.
Tips for using it well
- Bookmark the page or save your shareable link so your streak is one tap away when cravings hit.
- Set the weekly-spend assumption mentally to match what you really used to spend โ for many people the true saving is far above โน500 a week.
- Treat each upcoming milestone as a small finish line and plan a sober reward for reaching it.
- Share your number with a sponsor, friend or support group to turn private progress into accountability.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Entering a future date โ the counter only works for a clean date on or before today.
- Resetting the date after a single slip when you would be better served by talking to a professional; a relapse is a signal to strengthen your plan, not proof of failure.
- Treating the money figure as exact โ it is an estimate to motivate you, not an accounting record.
- Relying on this counter alone. It is a motivational screening and tracking tool, not medical advice or a substitute for treatment.
